“We Shall Overcome” isn’t a complicated piece of music. The first verse has only twenty-two words, most of them repeated. The melody is straightforward. The chords are basic. Yet the song has had a profound effect on people throughout the United States–and the world. In clear, accessible language Stuart Stotts explores the roots of the tune and the lyrics in traditional African music and Christian hymns. He demonstrates the key role “We Shall Overcome” played in the civil rights, labor, and anti-war movements in America. And he traces the song’s transformation into an international anthem. With its dramatic stories and memorable quotes, this saga of a famous piece of music offers a unique way of looking at social history. Author’s note, bibliography, source notes, index. In Bible versus Quran: Satan came with the Angels to present himself before Jehovah

In Bible versus Quran: Satan came with the Angels to present himself before Jehovah

The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran (3)

This is the third article of the series:” The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran”.

The Quran says that Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

—————————————————————————————–

The Sons of the Lord God in the Bible (3)

The Bible says that the Lord God, the Almighty Creator, has SONS who came to present themselves before the LORD.  Also, Satan came with the Sons of God to present himself before the Lord God.

Satan’s tests are many in the Bible; however, the two famous Satan trials occurred with Job and the Lord Jesus. Job was subjected to two trials when Satan Attacks Job’s Health and the Lord Jesus was subjected to the 40 day trial in the wilderness (Read Matthew 4)

It should be emphasized however that when Satan tried the Lord Jesus the Sons of God did not come to present themselves before the LORD.

On the other hand, the Bible does not tell the names of the Sons of the Lord God, the Bible also does not give the physical attributes of the Sons of the Lord God. In addition, the Bible does not tell what the number of the Sons of the Lord God was and how many they were?

In short, the Bible does not let us know who, how, when, where, how many etc. in respect to the Sons of the Lord God.

On the other hand, the Bible gives some informative details about the Sons of the kings of Israel, for example, but does not give any details about the Sons of the Lord God, the Almighty Creator, who are of course very much more important than the Sons of the kings of Judah .

Furthermore, In Language and literally wise, there are differences between the Angels and the Sons of God.  However; a biblical version translates the Hebrew “Sons of God” to Angels!

—————————-

Job 1:6 in five different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

6 One day the Angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.

New American Standard Bible

6Now there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

English Standard Version

6Now there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

King James Version

6Now there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Young’s Literal Translation

6And the day is, that Sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst.

—————————-

Job 2:1 in five different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

1 On another day the Angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.

New American Standard Bible

1Again there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD.

English Standard Version

1Again there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD.

King James Version

1Again there was a day when the Sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

Young’s Literal Translation

1And the day is, that Sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst to station himself by Jehovah.

The Sons of the Lord God in the Quran (3)

On the other hand, the Quran makes it very clear and says that Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

The Quran firmly forbids saying that Allah has a son.

It is not befitting for the Majesty of Allah to take to Himself a son.

The Quran says that Allah is the Originator of the heavens and the earth, which He originated uniquely without precedent; how should He have a son, when He has no consort, spouse?

Say O Prophet Muhammad: ‘if Allah had a son, I would be the first to worship of that son.  But it is established that He, exalted be He, does not have a son and thus there can be no worshipping of such a son.  I am the first to acknowledge that Allah has no son or partner.

In Islam, this point is very important faith wise.

In a very simple word, Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

Again, it is unforgivable sin to say or to believe that The One Almighty Creator who is Allah or God or the Lord or Jehovah or whatever you name Him has a son or Sons.

From the Islamic point of view, the conclusion of this essential topic that may establish or destroy the faith is that:

Any one who believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or Sons; he messes his faith up and is considered as a disbeliever and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the hell.

Any one who believes that the Creator has neither a son nor a partner he has a good faith and is considered as a believer and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the paradise.

—————————-

The meaning of Verse 6:101:

Allah is the Originator of the heavens and the earth, which He originated uniquely without precedent; He created them when they were nothing before such creation.

How should He have a son, when He has no consort, spouse?

How can He have a child, when there is for Him no consort, no wife?

And He created everything, that was meant to be created, and He has knowledge of all things; He is Aware of all created beings.

The meaning of Verse 43:81-82

Say O Prophet Muhammad: ‘if Allah had a son, I would be the first to worship of that son.

‘If Allah, the merciful, the Compassionate One, the Beneficent One had a son, hypothetically speaking, I would have been first among the worshippers, of that son.

But it is established that He, exalted be He, does not have a son and thus there can be no worshipping of such a son.  I am the first to acknowledge that Allah has no son or partner.

Glorified be the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, from that which they ascribe unto Him of Sons and partners!

—————————-

Verse 6:101 of the Noble Quran in four different translations:

QARIB:

He is the creator of the heavens and the earth. How can he have a son when he had no female companion? He created all things and has knowledge of all things.

SHAKIR:

Wonderful originator of the heavens and the earth! How could he have a son when he has no consort, and he (himself) created everything, and he is the knower of all things

PICKTHAL:

The originator of the heavens and the earth! How can he have a child, when there is for him no consort, when he created all things and is aware of all things?

YUSUFALI:

To him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: how can he have a son when he hath no consort? he created all things, and he hath full knowledge of all things.

—————————-

Verses 43:81-82

Verse 43:81

QARIB:

Say (Prophet Muhammad): ‘if the merciful had a son, I would be the first of the worshipers.

SHAKIR:

Say: if the beneficent Allah has a son, I am the foremost of those who serve

PICKTHAL:

Say (o Muhammad): if the beneficent one hath a son, then, I shall be first among the worshippers. (But there is no son).

YUSUFALI:

Say: “if (Allah) most gracious had a son, I would be the first to worship.”

Verse 43:82

QARIB:

Exaltations be to the lord of the heavens and the earth, the lord of the throne, above that which they describe! ‘

SHAKIR:

Glory to the lord of the heavens and the earth, the lord of power, from what they describe

PICKTHAL:

Glorified be the lord of the heavens and the earth, the lord of the throne, from that which they ascribe (unto him)!

YUSUFALI:

Glory to the lord of the heavens and the earth, the lord of the throne (of authority)! (He is free) from the things they attribute (to him)!

Methodists take precaution against swine flu during Church service and Communion

Methodists take precaution against swine flu during Church service and Communion

The Methodist Church offers guidelines to its members to lessen the chance of getting flu as a result of Communion. Swine flu remains a present concern throughout the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Methodists, like members of other denominations who take Communion of wine and bread to celebrate Christ and partake of his spirit are concerned about the Communion practice, too. They have good reason, though need not fear the act Methodists remark of their own.

The CDC reports, “…key indictors found that influenza activity continued to increase in the United States from the previous week (October 4-10, 2009). Among the findings:

·         Doctor visits increased.
·         Hospitalizations increased.
·         Deaths increased.

“Do celebrate worship and the sacraments fully and be not afraid,” said Taylor Burton-Edwards, director of worship resources for the United Methodist Board of Discipleship. In the same story titled, “In Battle of Germs, Jesus Wins,” United Methodist Church writer Kathy L. Gilbert also writes “United Methodist churches across the United States are … celebrating Holy Communion with a little more caution than usual.”Burton Edwards remarks, “Jesus is more powerful than germs.”  Various techniques and defenses are being used against Swine Flu, like these:

·         Hand sanitizers.
·         Wave, don’t shake hands when offering the peace.
·         Wash hands before touching food.
·         When using intinction for Communion, allow the server to dip the bread.

“Keep in mind that clinical studies have shown that communion itself poses very low risk for spreading disease,” so says the The Board of Discipleship’s Web site, which offers the message: show reasonable concern, “…not over-reactive panic. Rejoice and fear not!”

In United Methodist Church News Service’s Kathy Gilbert’s report she says, “The primary ways the virus spreads is by airborne particles from coughs or sneezes and by skin-to-skin contact with someone who is infected, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

The Methodist Church wants to promote awareness within their denomination of these preventive measures, and emphasizes, “United Methodist churches across the country are not letting the threat of H1N1, or “swine flu,” shut their doors.” The Board of Discipleship says, “Keep in mind that clinical studies have shown that communion itself poses very low risk for spreading disease,”

In an unrelated story, Methodist Legislators in Congress reportedly offer their opinions on Health Reform, with Michigan Democrat Debbie Stabenow, one of nine United Methodists in the Senate, saying the need for health insurance reform is imperative. Tom Gillem of United Methodist News Service (UNMS) goes on to write in his story about the Congresswoman:

“Stabenow, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, says health care reform legislation should ‘keep what works and fix what is broken.’

“‘I would like to see the system reformed to provide a public health insurance choice and competition so that all families and individuals have access to affordable health care,” she says. “I am very hopeful that we can get it done this year.’

He quotes the Senator, “’ We know America cannot continue on this road where health insurance premiums skyrocketed 128 percent, while wages have risen only 38 percent,” she says. “The costs of health insurance premiums are growing rapidly, and too many families do not have access to affordable coverage that they deserve.’”

Offering statements by others in Congress on the issue, the writer notes:

(1) Some have constituents who are suspicious of the reform and proposals, including the public benefit program. Yet, there is concern for the uninsured in the United States.
(2) There is criticism of the public behavior in the public discussions of health care reform. A Democrat says, “Some of the town hall disruptions, I think, are to the detriment of the folks who are looking for information to help them better understand the legislation.”
(3) Reform is needed, and as the same Methodist member of Congress said, as quoted in 2 above, “There is certainly a good economic reason to do that because we’re all carrying that cost right now when those folks go to the emergency room. But there’s a good moral reason to do that, as well.”

The King James Version, Inspired or not

The King James Version, Inspired or not

The controversy as to whether the King James Version of the Bible is the inspired Word of God or not has raged over many generations of Christians. Some believers unwaveringly claim it is the inspired word and others hold just as strongly that it is not. Occasionally, the opposing views can be so vehemently embraced that is causes schisms in the body and ministry suffers.

That something like this could bring Christians to loggerhead in light of incontrovertible evidence is difficult to understand. We can understand when unbelievers stir up controversy about scripture, but not when it comes from those who have been enlightened by the Spirit of God. Regardless of one’s position, for a member of the body of Christ, charity and harmony should always prevail.

Before charity and harmony are sought however, it is important that a Christian arrive at the right position on a matter. We are admonished in scripture to search out at thing to ensure that it is true. When we give due diligence to discover the truth, we leave no room for conflict in the body.

In this matter of inspiration the search reveals that the King James Version simply is not and cannot be the inspired Word of God. No version or translation is. To arrive at an opposite conclusion than this is to not ignore the facts.

I suspect that many use the word “inspired” when they actually mean to say “preserved.” Let’s briefly look at the difference and let’s keep it simple. Too often so-called Bible scholars get so deep that we common folk cannot understand what they are talking about. Consequently, not wishing to appear ignorant, we accept their teachings as fact, thereby perpetuating the error.

Inspiration was a one time, never to be repeated act of God whereby he transferred his thoughts to paper by the hand of holy men that he selected. He searched their hearts and employed them to this holy task. These men were sometimes contemporaries, but often lived during different periods of history over many centuries of time. God revealed his thoughts according to his time table in the format and way he wanted. This is best evidenced in the continuity of thought and purpose of scripture. He used approximately forty men to deliver the complete canon of scripture over a period of some 1900 years, but clearly the Bible is the work of one author.

We can allow some wiggle room for those who claim that these men wrote with their own flair, but even this concession borders on being dangerous. To infer that these men had any latitude to write what they wanted is simply preposterous. II Peter 1:21 tells us:

“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but

holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

The statement could not be any clearer. The will of man was not involved in any way. The will of God was affected through men by the moving of the Holy Spirit. Picture a large sailing vessel becalmed in a bay, its sails hanging limp from the masts. Though they want to get underway, the men on the ship can do nothing to cause the ship to move.

Suddenly a breeze is felt and the sails begin to rustle. The wind picks up to a steady pace and the sails fill. The ship begins to move. The men rush to their stations. The ship comes about and swiftly leaves the bay, rising and falling on the waves as it reaches open water.

The men on the ship were not responsible for the ship’s movement. They did nothing but be where they were supposed to be. The vessel did nothing but move involuntarily to the will of the wind. So too the men God used to pen his word did nothing more than make themselves available to his will by being who and where they were supposed to be. Though they were willing vessels, they wrote involuntarily, and often ignorantly, as the Spirit of God moved them.

Again, this was a one-time, never to be repeated act of God. God will never again transmit his thoughts to men until after he comes again to set up his theocratic kingdom on earth. Then he will commune with men in person and not through the written word.

We no longer have the inspired word of God. Frequently you will hear someone try to qualify their ideas and conclusions about the meaning of a certain portion of scripture by saying “well, if you check the original…” That person is not well-versed on canonical history. The fact is that the original, known as the Autographa or Textus Receptus (Received Text) no longer exists.

The original, or rather originals (as each book was given at different times in history) are no longer available. Of course we know that the Word of God is settled in the heavens, or, in other words, God holds it; but there is no collective work held in some secret vault somewhere on earth. It simply does not exist as some would suppose. Inadvertent and deliberate destruction, aging and other reasons have taken its toll.

However, that is not problematic, because God tells us that he has preserved his word for all time so that all generations can know his truth. The word of God is preserved in a translation and those who hold to the King James Version being the Inspired Word will be happy to know that while that notion is not supportable by scripture and fact, it is indeed the Preserved Word.

How can we be sure this is true? We know by simply by looking at the difference between the two concepts. The Inspired Word was perfect and flawless. The Preserved Word is not. In your service to the Lord you have heard people say “oh everyone knows that the Bible was written by men.”

By this declaration, they mean that men had latitude in the development of the Bible. This was not true of the Inspired Word as we have already seen. However, there is a modicum of truth to this statement when it comes to the Preserved Word. Men did have some latitude. This is why there are so many inferior and unfaithful texts.

The fact is that the King James Version of the Bible, or the Preserved Word, does have flaws. There are at least two miscues made by the translators that come to mind, and if I gave it more thought, I could come up with several more. For example, in II Thessalonians 2:2 the term “day of Christ” is used when it should read “day of the Lord.” It is an obvious error on the part of those who had the responsibility of translating and preserving the Inspired Word.

Many might drop their lower jaw on this revelation and perhaps have their faith injured, but that should not be the case. There are no ramifications to major doctrinal issues or positions. They are benign and easily corrected by any Christian who is asked to explain the discrepancy.

This underscores the importance of Christians being “instant in season.” We are the final link in the chain of preservation of the word. Inspiration brought us the perfect word of God. Translation began the preservation process. The King James Version continued the process by putting the preserved word into the hands of believers. The believer, in the role of priest, is to vigilantly protect the preserved word.

To quote a familiar radio personality, “and now you know the rest of the story.”

La Bella Lola

I ” try ” to play it on the harmonika :-) Have Fun ! La Bella Lola (Beautiful Lola) is, for many, the Hymn of the Sailor. The lyrics describe the beauty of a woman and the surrounding sea. The author is unknown and it is said that it is nothing more than a folk song. Some sources say that it arose during the late 19th century, from the floral games at the annual Carnival in the port of Guaymas, Mexico. The inspiration came from a woman named Maria Dolores Ferrá Calderón, the adopted daughter of a Barber. Both Maria and her father were natives and residents of the port. In 1967, the famous Mexican singer, Estanislao García Espinosa signed a deal with the record company RCA Victor. He presented the song to the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM) with the title The Beautiful Lola, and an uncertain history. The SACM, through Maria Elena Parra, found a pre-existing copy of the song, also with the title The Beautiful Lola. The composer Don Juan Solano had registered the song in the Spanish registry in 1966. Maria Elena, given these two contradictory documents, doubted the songs authenticity and catalogued it as in the public domain.
